Joss Whedon is reportedly working on a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot.
Fifteen years after the show originally ended, new reports have revealed that series creator Joss Whedon is looking to reboot the iconic show with 20th Century Fox Television.
According to Deadline, Whedon will executive produce the reboot while Monica Owusu-Breen, who has written for Alias, Lost, Fringe and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, will serve as showrunner for the upcoming series.
While the reboot is in its early stages, the series will reportedly feature a black lead actress as Buffy to make the series feel “richly diverse”.
No network has been attached to the project, but Fox 21 TV Studios will pitch the Buffy reboot to streaming and cable outlets later this summer.
Talks for the reboot began last fall but only moved forward when Breen was selected as the perfect writer for the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot will be contemporary and build on the mythology of the original show which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and ran for seven seasons on the WB Network, which later became The CW, and UPN.
