Fresh off the success of Bridgerton season 2, Jonathan Bailey has been cast as Felicity Jones’ on-screen boyfriend in the new comedy film, Maria

As reported by Deadline, the Cock actor will star as Eddy opposite the Oscar-nominated Jones (The Theory of Everything) who will be playing the titular character.

The film will see Maria struggle to “accept her age, her boyfriend’s love, and her father’s indifference”.

Deadline goes on to report that Maria will see a new opportunity upon meeting Raffy, her new stepbrother at her father’s (Jason Issacs – Harry Potter) wedding.

“Their obvious, if inconvenient, sexual chemistry is made worse by the news that her father has been diagnosed with a terminal illness,” Deadline also reports.

The film is being written and directed by the British comedian, Simon Amstell (Benjamin) and is due to begin filming in the UK and US in the autumn.

Speaking of the film Amstell says: “I’m incredibly excited to begin shooting Maria this year with Felicity Jones. Our hope is that making a film about our culture’s fear of aging and death will be an absolute sensation.”

Independent Entertainment is to launch sales in Cannes on the project. Louise Palmkvist Hansen will produce for EMU Films with Amstell also serving as executive producer.

The Attitude May/June issue is out now.
