Jonathan Bailey and the cast of Bridgerton have confirmed that a third season of the show has begun filming.

A short promo has been released on the show’s official Instagram account showing the cast holding up three fingers to the camera. It ends with Colin Bridgerton actor, Luke Newton, and Penelope Featherington/Lady Whistledown herself, Nicola Coughlan, confirming that filming has officially begun.

Nicola then asks Luke: “You coming in?” to which Luke replies: “Let’s go”.

The account then commented (on its own post): “The anticipation is palpable.”

The second season of the series ended with Bailey’s Viscount Anthony Bridgerton marrying Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) after the two spent much of the season resisting their feelings for one another.

The third season is said to focus on the third Bridgerton son, Colin, and his relationship with Penelope, who has long-held unrequited feelings for Colin. Unfortunately, Penelope overheard some rather disparaging remarks from Colin in regard to his relationship with Penny at the end of season two.

A synopsis for season three details that Penelope “has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin” but that she has “decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.

Penelope, who we’re told will be “lacking in confidence” will get help from Colin at which point feelings may come to the surface.

Jonathan previously teased his return for season three when speaking to USA Today.

The actor said: “I’m not going to miss a wedding. Let’s put it that way. As much as I’m needed, I’ll be there.”

The Bridgerton star was also recently seen in the West End revival of Mike Bartlett’s Cock where he played John, one half of a couple whose relationship comes under strain when one of them begins a relationship with a woman.

He has also recently been announced to be playing Matt Bomer’s love interest in the Showtime series Fellow Travellers as well as starring opposite The Theory of Everything actress Felicity Jones in the Simon Amstell comedy, Maria

Bridgerton is currently streaming on Netflix.
