John Barrowman has hinted that he might be open to returning to Torchwood in the future.

Barrowman played Captain Jack Harkness in the Doctor Who spin-off, which ran for five years between 2006 to 2011, and moved from BBC Three to BBC One during its run thanks to increasing popularity.

Torchwood was aimed at an older audience than Doctor Who, and explored more adult themes while featuring both gay and bisexual characters.

“It ran for quite a long time, I think four seasons, which is good for the BBC – we had a great run and then that was it, really. But who knows what the future holds?” said Barrowman of the sci-fi series during an interview on Terry Wogan’s Radio 2 show.

The creator of Torchwood, Russell T Davies, is currently working on two new gay-themed shows titled Banana and Cucumber, which are set to air on E4 and Channel 4 later this year – click here to find out more about the upcoming shows, and check out the first picture from the set of Banana here.
