Joan Rivers is said to be “in critical condition” in hospital after she reportedly stopped breathing during throat surgery.
According to TMZ, the 81-year-old comedian was undergoing a procedure on her vocal cords when she stopped breathing – and is said to have been rushed to an emergency ward at Mount Sinai hospital in New York.
The NYPD has apparently told the showbiz website that Rivers is now “in critical condition”. The comedian’s daughter Melissa is said to be on her way to the hospital to be at her mother’s side.
Rivers turned 81 on June 8. She has hosted weekly show Fashion Police on US showbiz TV network E! since 2010 and is due to embark on a stand-up tour of the UK this October.
