James Jordan: ‘I don’t agree with men dancing with men’

Former Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan has said he doesn’t think the BBC One show should include same-sex dance partners.

Jordan, who is currently appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, told his fellow housemates on the Channel 5 reality contest last night (September 9) that he doesn’t agree with the idea of men dancing with men.

“Latin dancing is about a man and a woman – not two people of the same sex,” said the 36-year-old, who appeared on eight series of the celebrity dance show between 2006 and 2013.

“Just because you’re gay doesn’t mean you can’t dance with a woman,” he added. “I do not agree with men dancing with men.”

In an attempt to clarify his comments to his housemates, Jordan then added: “My dance idol growing up was camp as a butcher’s hook. He was totally gay. But he was the most masculine dancer you could ever meet. Why would a man want to dance with a man?”

Jordan’s remarks stand in stark contrast to his former Strictly colleague Robin Windsor, who revealed last month (August) that he had asked the show’s producers to include a same-sex dance pairing – click here to read more.

Windsor’s partner – former X Factor contestant Marcus Collins – has also waded into the debate, saying: “It’s only a matter of time before enough people speak up [about same-sex dance partners] and it’s gonna be changed. History speaks for itself.”

Current Strictly contestant Scott Mills insisted there is no homophobia on the show earlier this week (September 8), after some viewers called for the gay Radio 1 DJ to be paired with a man during this year’s series – click here to read Scott Mills’s comments.
