ITV is reportedly planning a new version of The Sound of Music – which it will broadcast totally live.

The British channel is keen to replicate the success US broadcaster NBC enjoyed with its own live version of the classic musical, reports The Sun.

NBC’s live The Sound Of Music starred country singer Carrie Underwood as Maria Von Trapp and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer as Captain Von Trapp, and attracted over 18 million viewers when it aired in the US earlier this year.

ITV is said to be planning to use a live orchestra for its version of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, and is looking at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire as possible filming locations. The live musical would reportedly air on the channel next spring.

Following NBC’s success with The Sound of Music, the broadcaster is now working on a live musical version of Peter Pan, while rival US network FOX is currently planning a live version of Grease.

Meanwhile, a stage musical version of hit US vampire show True Blood is currently in the works – click here to find out more.
