An unofficial remake of Modern Family in Iran has written out the show’s gay characters.

Haft Sang is practically a frame for frame recreation of the popular US series, but gay characters Mitchell and Cameron have either been written out of the show or presented as heterosexuals, TIME reports.

Other characters have also had their gender changed because of the Islamic state’s strict religious teachings about pre-marital relationships.

Haft Sang is not an authorised remake of the ABC comedy, and Iranian fans of the original series have posted a video to YouTube illustrating just how similar the show is.

Earlier this year, Attitude marked the on-screen wedding of Modern Family‘s Mitchell and Cameron by unveiling a special Love & Marriage tribute cover.

Meanwhile, Modern Family covered the cost of all marriage licenses and wedding ceremonies that took place at the New York City Clerk’s on May 12 to celebrate the show’s same-sex wedding.
