‘I’m just like, I just want to be Maureen’ – Lady Gaga wants a role in ‘Rent’ musical
The bisexual character was originally played by Idina Menzel in the first Broadway run

Lady Gaga wants to play Maureen Johnson in Rent.
The singer-turned-actress is making headlines as her performance as Ally in the Star is Born reboot and in an interview Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda for Variety, Gaga looks to have her sights on another iconic role.
In the interview, the ‘Born This Way’ singer said: “I lost my mind when I saw Rent. I used to go – you stand in line and put your name in, and they call a raffle.
“I’m like staring at Maureen as she’s belting. I’m just like, I just want to be Maureen.
“For many years, record executives told me I was too theatre.”
In the hit LGBT musical, Maureen – who was played by Idina Menzel in the original Broadway run and the movie adaptation – is the bisexual performance artist.
