HBO has announced they are working on a spin-off musical show based on Grease.

The 1950s musical film starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson respectively.

The success of the film spawned a sequel and earlier this year, Paramount Studios revealed they are working on a prequel to the popular musical, titled Summer Loving.

Now, HBO has announced their own project based off the hit film called Grease: Rydell High which will feature musical numbers including popular tunes and some original compositions as well.

“This is high school and life in small-town USA told on the scale of a big rock ‘n’ roll musical,” Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max head of original content, said in a statement.

“It’s Grease 2.0 but with the same spirit, energy and excitement you immediately think of when you hear any of these iconic songs.”
