A gay couple have become the first to marry in Coronation Street‘s Rovers Return.

Paul Johnston, 33, and Andy Daniel, 37, tied the knot in front of friends and family on the iconic set on Monday (September 8).

The couple – who live in Islington, London – exchanged vows behind the bar, where characters like Bet Lynch and Liz McDonald have pulled pints over the years.

Paul, who works as a TV Journalist, said: “I’m on such a high, everything about the ceremony and venue is so special. You could tell that all the guests had a good time which means such a lot to us.”

Meanwhile, Andy said that he is “really happy” that they were able to give their families and friends “a truly memorable experience”.

“We’ve also made soap history by having a wedding without a punch up!” he added.

The couple booked their unique wedding after the set was issued a marriage license earlier this year. The Manchester set was opened up to the public in April after a new set was opened in Salford Quays.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds posed for photographs on the cobbles, before visiting Nick’s Bistro and the Platt household.
