The director of the upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic has exited the project.

Dexter Fletcher has departed as a result of creative differences with producer Graham King, according to Deadline.

Last year, Sacha Baron Cohen – who was set to play Mercury – also pulled out of the biopic over reported creative differences.

He was replaced by Ben Whishaw, who has also signed up to reprise the role of Q in the next James Bond film.

The film will focus on Mercury’s earlier years and will feature the band’s headline performance at Live Aid in 1985. However, it will not cover the his death from AIDS-related complications in 1991.

Filming on the project is expected to be begin in the summer.
