A former member of early noughties girlband Girl Thing has auditioned for this year’s X Factor.

Girl Thing were formed by Simon Cowell in 2000 – conceived as his version of the Spice Girls. However, the group’s success was short-lived and they only managed to score two top 25 hits in the UK before being dropped by their label.

The band reunited for the second series of ITV2’s The Big Reunion earlier this year, but split for the second time after the show ended.

Former member Linzi Martin, 32, sang last week for the X Factor judging panel – including her former manager Simon Cowell. When asked about her failed pop career, she reportedly broke down in tears.

However, a so-called show “insider” told the Daily Star that “her tears didn’t wash well with the panel”.

Meanwhile, new judge Mel B recently shared the first picture of the 2014 X Factor panel – click here to check it out.
