Dumbledore isn’t out in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ sequel, says director
The young Hogwarts professor will be played by Jude Law in the upcoming sequel

David Yates has said that Albus Dumbledore is clearly gay in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
It was announced last year that the movie, a sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, will feature a young Dumbledore played by Jude Law alongside Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp.
Since the announcement, fans have wondered if the film will address Dumbledore’s relationship with the dark wizard, whom he was in love with.
However, earlier this year Harry Potter director Yates revealed that the wizard’s sexuality won’t be “explicit” in the sequel – which is set to hit cinemas this November.
In the latest trailer, there is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment where we see Dumbledore looking into the Mirror of Erised and sees a young Gellert Grindelwald looking back at him confirming his love for the dark wizard.
And Yates has confirmed in an interview with Empire Magazine, that the future headteacher of Hogwarts isn’t “out as a gay man in the film”.
He said: “This part of this huge narrative that Jo [Rowling] is creating doesn’t focus on his sexuality, but we’re not airbrushing or hiding it.
“The story [of the romantic relationship] isn’t there in this particular movie but it’s clear in what you see… that he is gay.
“A couple of scenes we shot are very sensual moments of him and the young Grindewald.”
The sequel stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander alongside Law, Depp, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, and Poppy Corby-Tuech.
The highly-anticipated blockbuster will be released in UK cinemas on 16 November, 2018.
