Dame Edna creator calls Caitlyn Jenner a ‘self-mutilated, publicity-seeking ratbag’

By Will Stroude

Dame Edna Everage creator Barry Humphries has landed himself in hot water after referring to Caitlyn Jenner ‘self-mutilated’ and a “publicity-seeking ratbag” during a grossly offensive against trans women.

The Australian comedian, who is best known for his lilac-haired drag persona, defended recent comments made by friend and feminist author Germaine Greer, who has been at the centre of controversy over the last few months after students at Cardiff University launched a campaign to ban her from speaking at an event due to her history of transphobic remarks.

“I agree with Germaine! You’re a mutilated man, that’s all,” Humphries told The Telegraph.

The 81-year-old continued: “Self-mutilation, what’s all this carry on? Caitlyn Jenner – what a publicity-seeking ratbag. It’s all given the stamp – not of respectability, but authenticity or something.

“If you criticise anything you’re racist or sexist or homophobic.”

Early last year, Greer – who has previously said that “just because you lop off your d**k and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a f**king woman – attempted to defend her offensive remarks by arguing that transphobia “doesn’t exist”.

Meanwhile, Jenner recently penned a heartfelt apology letter after her own controversial comments about trans women looking like ‘men in dresses’ – click here to find out more.
