The showrunner of the CW Charmed reboot has revealed she wants the original cast of the 90s show to appear in the reboot.

The reboot, which has been described as “fierce, funny and feminist”, will premiere on the CW in October, but has faced criticism from fans and original cast members. Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell in the original, has been particularly vocal about the show

Set in modern-day, the new show will follow three sisters Macy (Madeleine Mantock), Madison (Sarah Jeffery) and Mel Pruitt (Melonie Diaz), as they discover their magical heritage following the death of their mother.

And in an interview with Digital Spy, Charmed showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman shared hopes of getting the original show’s cast to appear in the reboot.

“It would be great, I’d love it, so we’ll see,” she said. “You have to dig in the let these characters… let the audience learn who they are and peel away layers and… hopefully you want the audience to fall in love with these three women, but that would be a dream.”

She added: “I would love it.”

The news comes after Alyssa Milano, who played Phoebe Halliwell, told Entertainment Weekly that she wishes she had been involved in the reboot.

She said: “I wish that they would have come to us and we would have been involved since the beginning. Having said that, I do hope it reaches the newer generation and impacts that generation the way ours was able to do for its generation.”

Charmed will premiere on October 14 on the CW network. You can watch the trailer for the show below:
