Former Hear’Say singer and Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is apparently plotting a pop comeback.

Marsh, who has played Michelle Connors on the ITV soap since 2006, released a solo album called Standing Tall in 2003 but was dropped by her label Island after the third single Sentimental stalled at Number 35 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart.

A decade later, she is hoping to revive her recording career with help from producer David Gest and soul singer Candi Staton.

Gest revealed: “I am pleased to announce that Candi Staton, one of the all-time greatest soul singers, and my good friend Kym Marsh, who I think of as my little sister, are collaborating on a duet. They will be going into the studio after this tour to record the single. I cannot divulge too many details at this time, but a top American songwriter has written a great tune for them!”

Gest, ex-husband of Liza Minnelli, then added: “I think this record will put Kym right back on top of the charts. Candi and Kym will perform a duet together on the closing date of my tour at Gilgamesh in Camden. They will be performing Candi’s version of Suspicious Minds, which was a top 10 hit for her in the UK.”
