Closeted gay footballer struggles with his sexuality in new drama film – WATCH

By Attitude Magazine

WONDERKID

is a new film that tackles one of footballs biggest problems of homophobia.

The highly-anticipated film follows a gay professional footballer as he tires to succeed as his true self in a hyper-masculine – and very public – environment.

Director Rhys Chapman told I-D:”I find it embarrassing that soccer as an institution is so far behind everyone else in accepting the gay community. Which is why it was so important to get the story and film spot on.”

He continued: “I think there would be an overwhelming amount of support for any players that came out, and those first players would be such an important role model for the gay community across the world”.

Supporters of the film include Adidas, The FA, The Premier League and Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club.
