Cher has recorded an album of ABBA covers

The pop legend got inspired by her performance of 'Fernando' in 'Mamma Mia 2'

Cher has announced she has recorded an album of ABBA covers.

The music icon has joined the cast of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – the highly anticipated sequel to the hit 2008 musical movie – and during the film she performs the ABBA classic ‘Fernando’ as well as joining in the full-cast rendition of ‘Super Trouper’.

And after being inspired by the Swedish group’s music, the Oscar and Grammy winner decided to get back into the studio and create an album dedicated to the popular musical sensations.

In an interview on the US Today Show, Cher was asked by host Kathie Lee Gifford what excites her at this point in her life.

Cher then replied: “Should I say it? After I did ‘Fernando’, I thought, it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs. So I did.”

However, she did go on to say that the album isn’t “what you’d think of” when covering ABBA because she “did it in a different way”.

Frankly, we cannot wait to grab a copy of this album and if her performance of ‘Fernando’ is anything to go by, then the album is going to be perfection!

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again hits UK cinemas on July 20.
