Channing Tatum has landed a role in a future X-Men movie.

The 34-year-old actor will play Remy LeBeau aka Gambit, a mutant with the ability to create, control and manipulate kinetic energy at whim.

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed Tatum’s casting when asked by Total Film, saying: “He’s a rogue. Channing, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. And he can handle the action. We all know that. And he’s got a really good heart.”

She then said of Tatum:  “He’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”

Meanwhile, the latest instalment in the superhero franchise, X-Men: Days of Future Past, opens in UK cinemas on May 22. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast uniting X-Men stars old and new, including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Ellen Page, Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman.

Tatum is currently working on the script to the Magic Mike sequel, which has been titled Magic Mike XXL and given a July 2015 release date.
