George Gilbey and his family have been axed from Channel 4’s Gogglebox.

The show’s producer, Chantal Boyle, explained that having the Gilbey clan feature in the next series “wouldn’t work” following electrician George’s appearance on Celebrity Big Brother.

“It’s all about money,” Boyle told The Mirror. “They are pretty cash-strapped and so you can see why they would accept the offer to go on Big Brother“.

Boyle also revealed that the Gilbey family were informed in advance that they would not be able to take part in the next series if George accepted the offer to appear on Celebrity Big Brother.

The Gilbey family have since confirmed that they will not been on Gogglebox again in a tweet posted earlier today (August 23) – see below.

Gilbey is currently favourite to win Celebrity Big Brother, which continues tonight (August 23) at 9.10pm on Channel 5.

Earlier this year we spoke to Gogglebox star Chris Steed about his relationship with sofa mate Stephen Webb – read the interview here.
