‘Call Me By Your Name’ director Luca Guadagnino is ‘serious’ about making a sequel
A sequel to the award-winning film would take place several years later.
Call Me By Your Name actor Michael Stuhlbarg has said director Luca Guadagnino is “serious” about a sequel.
The Oscar-winning film, an adaptation of André Aciman’s novel of the same name, has garnered critical praise and director Luca Guadagnino has revealed he’s working on continuing the film with a sequel or more.
Now, Michael Stuhlbarg, who plays Elio Perlman’s father in the movie, has revealed that Guadagnino and Aciman are “serious” about continuing the film.
In an interview with Far Out Magazine, Stuhlbarg said: “He [Guadagnino] seems to think that we might be able to pick up the action a few years later to see what’s happened to these characters and the choices they’ve made, and life after this particular momentous summer for them all.
“But it sounds like something he’s serious about, and André Aciman is thrilled I think at the idea.”
Stuhlbarg then explained that there were parts of the original book that they hadn’t used in the original film which could be featured in the sequel.
The actor also shared his excitement at the idea of a sequel, saying: “I’m curious about it myself and I would be thrilled to be a part of any kind of a sequel. It was a very special experience for all of us. I think it would have to be some kind of unique thing from what it was, but I would absolutely be game for trying.”
Guadagnino has revealed that a sequel to the original movie, which tells the story of Elio (Timothee Chalamet) and Oliver’s (Armie Hammer) relationship in 1980s Italy, may take place several years after their summer together.
The 46-year-old director also said that the new film would explore the AIDS crisis while taking place in Berlin during 1989.
