Following reports that the stars had aligned and Britney Spears and Sir Elton John were possibly collaborating, it has now been confirmed.

On Monday (8 August) Sir Elton shared an image on Twitter reading #HoldMeCloser with a rose emoji followed by a rocket emoji. Also included is a link to pre-save the song.

‘Hold Me Closer’ is said to be a renewed version of the Elton John standard, ‘Tiny Dancer’. A spokesperson has teased that more information will be made available soon.

At the end of July, reports began swirling that the two had met in secret and recorded a remix of the 1971 hit with sources saying that the collaboration was John’s idea.

A source told Page Six: “This was Elton’s idea, and Britney is a huge fan. They have recorded a remix of ‘Tiny Dancer’ as a full duet — and it is incredible. They’ve already played it for people at their record label, and everybody is freaking out. It is so good. They are saying this is going to be the song of the summer.”

‘Hold Me Closer’ would be the first music Spears has released since her 2016 critically lauded album Glory as well as her first time releasing music after her 14-year conservatorship was terminated in November 2021.

Spears, who is said to be talking about her career posted a haunting rendition of her debut single ‘…Baby One More Time’ in July revealing that she has wanted to release an updated version of the track.
