Boy George: ‘Not every gay guy has promiscuous sex’

By Josh Haggis

Boy

Boy George has discussed the stereotype that gay men are more likely to be promiscuous.

The Culture Club singer, 53, who was presented with the Icon Award for Outstanding Achievement by Naomi Campbell at the Attitude Awards on Monday night (October 13), shares his views on today’s gay scene in the latest issue of Attitude.

“I think you have to be careful with the assumption that everyone that goes into gay clubs takes drugs. And not everyone has promiscuous sex. That is one type of person. And they exist in the straight world too,” says the singer.

He continues: “It’s hard with all the technology. When you try to have a conversation with somebody these days they are constantly checking their phones. I think maybe it is harder to be in the moment these days.”

You can read the full interview with Boy George – in which he also discusses his feud with Madonna, songs he would like to cover in the future and his love for Kylie Minogue – in the new issue of Attitude, which is out in shops now and available to download to your iPad or tablet device at Pocketmags.com/Attitude.

You can also order a physical copy via post – and pick which one of nine collectible covers you’d like – from newsstand.co.uk.
