Suzanne Somers has claimed that Barry Manilow’s recent marriage to his manager was a “freeing” experience for him.

Earlier this month, the 71-year-old Copacabana singer married Garry Kief in a surprise ceremony at his home in Palm Springs, despite never publicly coming out as gay during his illustrious career.

In a new interview, Manilow’s close friend, actress Somers, has revealed that the pair had been involved in a romantic relationship for three decades before they eventually tied the knot.

“They’re married and really happy, and I was there when it was announced and they’ve been together for 30 years,” she said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

“I think it’s freeing for him. He’s one of the most incredible people and a true musical genius. I believe he is the Irving Berlin of our generation. The impact he has made on music is incalculable,” she added.
