Ariana Grande refuses to label herself after singing about ‘liking women’ on new track ‘Monopoly’
The star's new collaboration with Victoria Monét has raised questions.

Ariana Grande might be one of pop’s biggest supporters of the LGBTQ community, but it seems the ‘7 Rings’ singer’s commitment to the cause might extend to more than simple allyship.
After previously casting a female love interest in the video for ‘break up with your girlfriend i’m bored’ earlier this year, the 25-year-old star sparked speculation about her sexuality after dropping new single ‘Monopoly’ on Sunday (1 April).
The track, a collaboration with American singer Victoria Monét, sees Grande sing the line “I like women and men”, causing some fans to wonder whether the singer was bisexual.
Monét, who came out as bisexual herself last year, also sings the line separately, so of course it could mean nothing – but Ariana later confirmed in a reply to a fan on Twitter that she doesn’t “feel the need” to apply labels to her sexuality.

In response to a fan who tweeted “ariana ain’t gotta label herself, but she said what she said,” Grande wrote: “i haven’t before and still don’t feel the need to now. which is okay”.
The comment comes after the announcement of Ariana’s headline spot at Manchester Pride this summer was criticised by some who accused the singer of ‘exploiting’ the LGBTQ community.
In respose, Grande wrote: “I want to celebrate and support this community, regardless of my identity or how people label me.
“LGBTQ representation is incredibly important, and I’m always proud to share the stage with LGBTQ artists!”
