By David Hutchison

Judy Murray will put her footwork to the test in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, it has been announced.

The tennis coach and mother of Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will compete in the 12th series of the Saturday night dance contest, which is expected to commence on BBC One in September.

The news was revealed on the channel’s Twitter account, along with a photo of Murray attempting to serve a tennis ball with one of the show’s iconic score cards. See below.

“I’m a huge Strictly Come Dancing fan but a total armchair dancer,” the 54-year-old told the BBC website. “It’s going to be a big challenge for me and for whoever has to dance with me but I absolutely can’t wait to get started!”

Murray is the second celebrity known to be competing in the series, after The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge was confirmed last week. The two will compete against 12 other celebrities whose identities are yet to be revealed.

The 21st Question host Gethin Jones recently told attitude.co.uk, teasingly, that one of his friends will feature on the new series of Strictlyread more here.
