And just like that, And Just Like That… has been renewed for a second season.

The first season in the spinoff to Sex and the City concluded at the beginning of February, but given its status as HBO Max’s most successful original series, it was bound to happen.

It also follows comments from the show’s lead and executive producer, Sarah Jessica Parker, to Variety that “There feels like there’s momentum” for another go.

“We’re all thrilled”

HBO Max’s announcement on Tuesday (22 March) confirms that SJP will return alongside Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, who also serve as executive producers.

Executive producer Michael Patrick King will also return.

Of the announcement, he said: “I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters – played by these powerful, amazing actors. The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just like That… our Sex life is back.”

Sarah Aubrey, the Head of Original Content at HBO Max added: “We have been delighted by the cultural conversation generated by these characters and their stories, set in a world we already know and love so much.

“We are proud of the work Michael Patrick King and our wonderful writers, producers, cast and crew have done to bring these stories to the screen. We can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store for season 2!”

And Just Like That… was not without criticism during its run. While it got people talking it drew flack over some of its new characters such as Che (Sara Ramirez) as well as Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) “car crash” exploration of her sexuality.

The series also found it hard to escape from the shadow of Kim Cattrall’s absence from the show. She had played the sex-positive Samantha in the original series and the two movie spin-offs.

Cattrall bowed out after saying in an interview that she took Sam “past the finishing line” with the poorly-received 2011 Sex and the City 2 movie.

Fans have speculated whether Cattrall and Parker’s well-publicised feud was the reason for Cattrall’s absence.

Attitude’s new-look March/April issue is out now.
