Amelle Berrabah has revealed that she has “no problem” with Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS) taking back the Sugababes name.

Speaking to attitude.co.uk earlier today (August 1), the 30-year-old said she would be happy for MKS – the group which features original Sugababes members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy – to reclaim the name provided that the group’s more recent lineup doesn’t need it again.

Asked about recent reports suggesting MKS are to relaunch as “Sugababes”, Berrabah said: “The only thing I can say is, if by early next year me and the girls [Heidi Range and Jade Ewen] are like ‘You know what, I’m happy with my life right now,’ then I feel like maybe we should pass the baton on.

“I have no problem with either the girls taking the name, or even three new babies that have grown and been moulded into Sugababes taking the name,” she added.  “Seriously, I think you should always pass the baton on – and if you can’t do something anymore, you should let someone else do it.

She concluded: “We’re not selfish in that kind of way and if it ever did get to that then yeah, of course. And I’d be happy if MKS did get it or we gave it to them.”

Sugababes have not released any new material since 2011’s promotional single Freedom. While no official break-up announcement has ever been made, band member Jade Ewen admitted last year (2013) that the group was “over” and that she didn’t feel “comfortable” lying about their status.

The original Sugababes lineup of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy reformed under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan in mid-2012. The group’s debut single Flatline was released in September last year but only managed to make number 50 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart.

Despite the single’s poor chart placing, the girls insisted earlier this year (February) that their album was still on its way – click here to find out more.

Amelle Berrabah is set to appear on the BBC’s new gymnastics reality show Tumble, which premieres on Saturday, August 9. In the meantime, you can check out a picture of the show’s full celebrity cast here.
