Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shouts ‘trans rights!’ during Twitch video game viewed by 700,000 gamers

The US congresswoman added: "I’m so excited by this election; we can overwhelm the polls!"

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the US Democrat politician, has shouted out “trans rights!” during a Twitch video game watched by 700,000 people.

Now this is how you engage with voters in 2020!

The congresswoman was playing the multiplayer spaceship game Among Us, posted on YouTube on Wednesday (21 October) in an effort to raise awareness to vote in the upcoming US election, when she made the comment.

The moment came when AOC encountered Harry Brewis – also known as Hbomberguy – in the game, now one of platform’s most-watched of all time.

British YouTuber Brewis made headlines (and won an Attitude Pride Award!) after last year raising more than $330,000 (£258,000) for trans youth charity Mermaids by playing Donkey Kong for 60 hours straight.

AOC also made a special appearance during that marathon – and now the pair’s paths have crossed again.

“I’m so excited by this upcoming election”

Elsewhere during the game, AOC said: “I’m so excited by this upcoming election. We can overwhelm the polls, and we can get things back on track.”

Republican leader and current US President Donald Trump goes up against Democrat leader Joe Biden on 3 November 2020.

Earlier this month, Biden gave a shout out to LGBTQ+ equality while paying tribute to murdered gay teen Matthew Shephard.

“Today marks 22 years since Matthew Shepard passed away after a brutal anti-gay hate crime,” he said on Twitter. “Over two decades later, violence against LGBTQ+ Americans is at an all-time high. As president, I’ll strengthen our hate crimes laws and make clear that bigotry has no place in America.”
