Adam Rippon says Pope Francis’ pro-gay comments are ‘so awesome’

The Olympic figure skater also says he'd like to meet the Pope one day

Adam Rippon has revealed he wants to meet Pope Francis and thinks his pro-gay comments are “awesome”.

The Olympic figure skater, who became the first openly gay person to win Dancing With The Stars, praised Pope France’s pro-gay comments after he reportedly told a gay man that God loves him the way he is.

Juan Carlos Cruz, a survivor of sexual abuse by Chilean priest Fernando Karadima, revealed he had spoken with the Pope about the experience earlier this month.

According to reports, the leader of the Catholic church told Cruz that his sexuality doesn’t matter, saying: “Juan Carlos, that you are gay does not matter.

“God made you like this and loves you like this and I don’t care. The Pope loves you like this. You have to be happy with who you are.”

When asked about the comments by TMZ, Adam Rippon said: “I think that’s so awesome what the Pope said.”

He added: “It would be pretty cool to meet him one day.”

Then, when asked who Rippon thinks should speak to the Pope, Rippon said: “I think Gus [Kenworthy] should do it.”

Meanwhile, the Olympic figure skater revealed this week that he is in the process of moving in with his Finnish boyfriend Jussi-Pekka Kajaala.
