Denise Van Outen is set to release a new single this week, a nu-disco cover of ‘In The Evening’, originally recorded by Sheryl Lee Ralph in 1984.
The track marks Van Outen’s return to music and reimagines the disco classic with an updated, club-ready sound ahead of the summer and Pride season.
To coincide with the release, Van Outen will co-host The Gaydio Big Breakfast on Gaydio tomorrow (17 April) alongside presenter Dave Cooper. Broadcasting live from 7am to 10am, the show will feature the first exclusive radio play of the single, as well as celebrity guest appearances.
“Expect old school big brekkie antics and the first exclusive radio play of my new single ‘In The Evening'” – Denise Van Outen teasing her Gaydio hosting gig
The appearance revisits Van Outen’s early career as a breakfast television presenter on The Big Breakfast. She made her debut on the Channel 4 programme in September 1996 before becoming a main presenter in 1997, forming a popular on-screen partnership with Johnny Vaughan.
Van Outen said: “It’s no secret how much I love The Big Breakfast, so I’m thrilled to be co-hosting the Gaydio breakfast show alongside Dave. Expect old school big brekkie antics and the first exclusive radio play of my new single ‘In The Evening’ ahead of this year’s Pride season. This is one breakfast you won’t want to skip.”
“Denise is the perfect person for this. She’s breakfast TV royalty” – Dave Cooper on co-hosting with Van Outen
Cooper added: “Denise is the perfect person for this. She’s breakfast TV royalty, she’s had an incredible career across both stage and screen, and she’s always had such a genuine, longstanding connection with the LGBTQ+ community. We’re leaning fully into the madness with her – big energy, big nostalgia and absolutely no idea what’s going to happen next. Exactly how breakfast should be.”
Alongside her television career, Van Outen has built a profile as a disco DJ, performing internationally with appearances in Ibiza and at UK festivals including Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight Festival.
‘In The Evening’ will receive its first play on Gaydio tomorrow.
