Boy George has gushed over the iconic Dame Shirley Bassey as she stepped out on stage at the 2023 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar

Music powerhouse Bassey, 86, picked up the ‘Honorary Gay’ award, sponsored by Virgin Atlantic. Collecting the award, the Welsh icon sang a play on her classic song ‘Diamonds Are Forever’

She belted out the words: “Divas are forever… and ever,” to thunderous applause.

“Thank you, Attitude, for this wonderful award. Thank you. So fabulous,” she said.

Fellow singer Boy George, 62, couldn’t help but sing praises over one of his role models in the industry.

“It’s a total pleasure to hand this over to you” – Boy George

Prior to handing over the award, the ‘Karma Chameleon’ vocalist said: “It is a total pleasure to hand this over to you.”

He has previously spoken of his love of the Welsh legend, who he has said he was fascinated with when he was growing up.

Boy George even promised campmates he would do “impressions of Shirley Bassey everyday” when appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2022.

Bassey’s icon status has been established for many years. She became the first British artist to score seven top 40 albums across seven decades.

She’s worked with everyone from the Pet Shop Boys to the Propellerheads via James Bond soundtrack producer John Barry.
