Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo has reflected on coming out as gay to his wife of 14 years, Fleur Shomo, following her online response last month.
Shomo came out publicly as a “proudly gay man” via a lengthy Instagram post on 23 May 2026, saying he felt “compelled to set the record straight”.
He said he had been “unpacking and reckoning” with his sexuality for “quite some time”, describing the journey as “difficult to navigate”.
“I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb” – Fleur Shomo on Caleb Shomo coming out as gay
Fleur, who has been married to Caleb since 2012, shared her response on social media following the announcement, admitting their marriage is now “done”.
Reflecting on their 14-year marriage, she said: “The past few months have been a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate. For both of us. But I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb. I have cared more about his well-being over the years than anything else in the world.”
Fleur continued: “To see the confusion and pain he went through and the highs and lows and wanting to help but not knowing how… You never want anything more for your person than for them to just be okay.”
The Beartooth frontman described being “fucking terrified” coming out to his wife
Shomo spoke about coming out to his wife during a recent appearance on the Disrespectfully podcast, admitting he was “fucking terrified”.
“I was just bawling my fucking eyes out, trying so hard to verbalise,” said the singer. “And I really struggle to verbalise things, and this is obviously such an intense thing, and I’m feeling so nervous and so scared in the situation that it was really, really difficult to verbalise, and I didn’t verbalise it very well.”
“I basically was able to verbalise that… the way that, like, I feel about girls, I feel about guys,” Shomo recalled telling his wife. “There’s something there that I’ve been running from for a long fucking time. And I don’t think I want to run anymore.”
Shomo went to therapy after coming out to his wife
Describing the aftermath, Shomo said “the fucking hinges got ripped out… it just was so fast.”
After coming out to his wife, he learned to love himself, crediting it as part of his journey to improve his mental health, and began therapy.
Caleb founded American rock band Beartooth in 2012 and has released five studio albums, spearheaded by their acclaimed debut album Disgusting in 2014.
The hardcore punk group are set to release their sixth studio album Pure Ecstasy on 28 August 2026.
