Caleb Shomo, lead singer of Beartooth, has come out as a “proudly gay man”, prompting his wife Fleur Shomo to speak out.
The rock band frontman made the announcement via Instagram over the weekend, addressing widespread speculation about his personal life.
“I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further,” began Caleb, 33, before adding: “I am a proudly gay man.”
Caleb Shomo described coming to terms with his sexuality “difficult to navigate”
He said he had been “unpacking and reckoning” with his sexuality for “quite some time”, describing the journey as “difficult to navigate.”
Caleb founded Beartooth in 2012 and has released five studio albums, spearheaded by their acclaimed debut album Disgusting in 2014, and they are set to release their sixth, titled Pure Ecstasy, on 28 August 2026.
“When it comes to my art / Beartooth, I have always strived to chase who I am in the deepest part of my soul from album to album,” wrote the lead singer.
“I will express myself wholeheartedly and fully” – Caleb on coming out as gay
“As you could gather if you’ve followed the band at all in the earlier years, there are four very self-deprecating albums about exploring my religious upbringing, depression, self-hatred, self-loathing, and hopelessness,” Caleb explained.
He said he had tried to bury his feelings with alcohol, and only after becoming fully sober in 2025 was he able to reconcile with his sexuality “in hopes that it will eventually lead to me experiencing self-love,” he said.
On his 2026 album, he continued: “One thing I decided before I wrote a single note or lyric of the upcoming album is that whatever happens, I will express myself wholeheartedly and fully.”
“I will only do what makes me happy” – Caleb on how he will navigate his music career as a publicly gay man
“Wherever it takes me I will follow and I refuse to water any part of it down, from the music, to the lyrical content, and the way I portray myself. I will only do what makes me happy at the deepest level and what is the most honest depiction of who I am.”
Fleur, who has been married to Caleb since 2012, shared her response on Instagram, saying the marriage is now “done”.
Reflecting on their 14-year marriage, she said: “The past few months have been a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate. For both of us. But I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb. I have cared more about his well-being over the years than anything else in the world.”
“To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard” – Fleur Shomo on her husband coming out as gay
“To see the confusion and pain he went through and the highs and lows and wanting to help but not knowing how… You never want anything more for your person than for them to just be okay,” Fleur continued.
“To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out. You can love and support your person through the hardest time in their life, whilst also being completely demolished & losing yourself at the same time,” she added.
“Our nearly 14 years of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love. Nobody will know anything about our marriage like we do,” she said.
“Our story was a good one. And now it’s done” – Fleur stating her marriage to Caleb has come to end
“I already miss it & my husband more than anything. Our story was a good one. And now it’s done,” she concluded.
Caleb thanked those who had supported him through his journey to self discovery, encouraging his readers to give themselves grace if they are struggling with their identity.
“Holding these things in only hurt you and those around you,” said Caleb.
