For veteran fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race, it may seem like it’s been a long time coming, but RuPaul has finally won an Emmy.
The drag icon was honoured at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (September 11) for his work hosting the cult show, for which he is also executive producer.
The drag world was united in praise for the legend, while Ru himself reacted with a simple “OMFG!”

All Stars 2 contestant Ginger Minj described the win as “long overdue,” while Adore Delano, who shocked audiences when she walked out of All Stars 2 in the second episode said, “Congrats Rupaul for snatching the Emmy… so cool.”
The star, who had dedicated his Emmy nomination to “outsiders everywhere” wore a typically vibrant pink and white polka dot suit as he accepted the award.
Referencing past comments where he’d insisted he’d “rather have an enema than have an Emmy” he joked: “Earlier this year I was quoted as saying, ‘I’d rather have an enema than an Emmy,’ but thanks to the television academy I can have both!”
The Primetime Emmy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on September 18 at 4pm on ABC, and will include and edited presentation of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
