Joshua Sasse and Kylie Minogue call for marriage equality at ARIA Awards – WATCH

British actor Joshua Sasse was joined by fiance and Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue as he made an impassioned plea for Australians to continue backing equal marriage at today’s Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards (November 23).
Back in September, actor Joshua Sasse began fronting the ‘Say I Do Down Under’ campaign, which enlists celebrities including to raise awareness about equal marriage in Australia, and funds for equal rights group Australians 4 Equality.
Sasse and Kylie have pledged to not marry until all couples are able to enjoy the same rights.
The fight for equal marriage across the country has faced a number of obstacles. A widely opposed public vote on the matter was announced in August this year, but was ultimately struck down by the Senate. LGBT advocates had feared that the plebiscite would bring homophobia out into public discourse. Activists now hope the law can be passed through a simple parliamentary voice.
Speaking at the ARIA awards, Sasse said: “You have a voice. If we all stand together, we can bring Australia back on the right side of history and make 2017 the year that we all say, ‘I do’, Down Under.”
His calls echo those of Troye Sivan, who urged campaigners not to “get complacent” about the battle for equality on the night.
Sia also used her winner’s acceptance speech to raise awareness for same-sex marriage. An Australian marriage quality activist who was accepting her Best Femal Artist award on her behalf said, “my name is Angie Green, I’m the CEO of Stand Up Events. Outrageously Sia has asked me to accept this award on behalf of Australian Marriage equality.”
