Steps are manifesting a West End musical – and their extensive discography is offering up a few ideas for what it could be called.

Claire Richards, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Lee Latchford-Evans, Faye Tozer and Lisa Scott-Lee teased the project on the red carpet at last night’s Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, sponsored by Jaguar.

The ‘Stomp’ singers picked up the Attitude Icon Award, supported by Virgin Atlantic; they first detailed the project in the Attitude Awards issue – out now to download and to order globally.

“It’s so obvious,” H told us. “We’ve been talking about it for years… The Steps musical. It’s just the perfect pop progression of telling a story through our songs. There are cogs turning.”

Claire added: “We’ve talked about it amongst ourselves very seriously.”

Speaking to Attitude at the Camden Roundhouse in London ahead of the ceremony, Faye said of a name for the potential production: “I don’t know… ‘One For Sorrow’?! ‘Better Best Forgotten’?! We’ve got names coming out of our ears!”

“We have to go with one of our song titles – ‘What the Future Holds’,” added H.

Lisa opted for ‘Tragedy’ before adding of the project: “All I can say is it’s very exciting…”

Lee took a different tack by referencing their award and saying: “I think we should call it Iconic.”

Claire then said: “Oh my god, um… I’m the most indecisive… I can’t think of any of our songs! Um… OK: ‘Love’s Got a Hold of My Heart’!”

Frankly, we’re torn ‘Tragedy’ and ‘What the Future Holds’…
