Tom Daley wins two medals at diving World Championships
British diver Tom Daley has won two medals at the 2015 World Aquatic Championships held over the weekend in the Russian city of Kazan. Taking out bronze on the 10 metre platform dive, the win marks the first time Daley has won in the men’s individual category since 2009, and follows a team gold medal win earlier in the day alongside teammate Rebecca Gallantree.

Competing in the event despite Russia’s tough anti-gay laws banning all “propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientations”, Daley recovered from a rocky start where he trailed competitors in ninth place, eventually moving up to a third place podium finish.
Very happy to have come away with a 2nd medal, a BRONZE at the @fina1908 world champs in Kazan! Bring on next year!

“I’m really happy with that bronze because I did make it as hard as possible for myself,” said Daley.
“I’ve learned to persevere, stick at it and keep going because you never know what can happen in competitions.”
With a place already secured for Team GB’s squad for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the 21-year old delivered four strong dives, scoring a total of 537.95. Defending champion Qui Bo of China (587.0) took the title, with USA Olympic gold medallist David Boudia (560.2) placing second. Daley, who won bronze at the London 2012 Olympics, said he enjoyed the pressure of competition diving.

“I find it fun,” he said. “It’s interesting to see the same three people on the podium today as at London 2012. It looks like we’ve still got it and we just need to shuffle around for next year and hopefully I can end up on top.”
