Sonia Hensler X Gladstone London for Rocktober

By Nick Byam

Gladstone London – the premium English accessory brand, who hand-craft their products using the finest Italian leathers – will be hosting renowned artist Sonia Hensler in their Shepherd Market store to celebrate their second Rock-Tober event this month.

Sonia Hensler is a UK-based artist whose work often draws inspiration from her love of Victorian fashion, design and architecture. The Victorian aesthetic successfully marries a unique, British elegance with a dark, sometimes challenging, gothic flair. Hensler says, “there was a playful feel during this period, where whimsy vies with formality, creating an unlikely juxtaposition that undoubtedly informs and enriches my work as in illustrator.” Sonia has previously collaborated with other fashion brands such as Loewe, Topshop, Daks, Reem Acra, and Coco de Mer.

Having launched this year, the aptly named Rock-Tober will take place at Gladstone London throughout the month of October, celebrating UK artists by welcoming them into store and asking them to create beautiful and bespoke pieces of art on their bags and luggage. Founder John O’Sullivan – previously Chief Operating Director at Tanner Krolle – says, “Gladstone London has always wanted to blend the gap between timeless designs with a contemporary urban design; I liked the idea of using the bags as a canvas.” During the event, shoppers are invited into the store bringing their most beloved bags, small leather pieces or clothing and Sonia will design a tailored piece of art for you exclusively!

The exclusive AW16 graffiti collaboration with Brighton based artist The Glimmer Twin will also be available, being in-store on Thursday 27th October.
