Queen’s Greatest Hits breaks UK chart record
By Sam Rigby

Queen have become the first act in UK chart history to sell over 6 million copies of a single album.
The band’s Greatest Hits album passed the sales milestone over the weekend, and the compilation remains the best-selling UK album ever.
The album – which was first released in 1981 – is now owned by one in three British families and is owned by one in four households, according to The Official Charts Company.
“Great news, amazing news from the Official Charts Company,” Brian May said. “Queen’s Greatest Hits which was released in 1981 has passed the 6 million mark in sales, which is incredible.
“I just want to say thanks to everyone who has supported us through the years, we hope to continue to serve you.”
Roger Taylor added: “Wonderful. Who would have thought it?! And all due to the Great British public. Thank you. A great honour!”
Queen’s Greatest Hits is currently 900,000 copies ahead of its ABBA’s Gold – Greatest Hits, which has sold 5.1m.
The Beatles, Adele and Oasis complete the top five best-selling albums in the UK.
