Conchita Wurst has given her first public concert since being crowned the champion of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest.

The Austrian drag queen took to the stage at a homecoming event in Vienna on Sunday (May 18), BBC News reports.

Conchita, who is also known as Tom Neuwirth, said: “I am so humbled and happy that I could bring this victory back home.

“This was not just a victory for me alone, but for a whole community of people who believe in a progressive future.”

Austria’s Chancellor Werner Faymann said that Conchita’s victory promotes tolerance, and hopes it will spur on the conservative People’s Party, who is in coalition with, to move forward with gay rights.

“You showed a message from our country, from Europe, in a direction that is known as tolerance, love and lust for life,” he told Conchita.

Over the weekend, the drag queen made her UK chart debut at number 17 with her winning song Rise Like A Phoenix.
