5 more songs Madonna and Miley should perform together

By Ben Kelly

Madonna has shot a guest spot on Miley Cyrus’s MTV Unplugged, performing a mash-up of her hit Don’t Tell Me with Miley’s banger We Can’t Stop. Here are five other songs we think they could have twerked it out to.

‘Material Girl’

The original anthem of youthful materialism perfectly suited 1985, the year that Madonna was the name on everybody’s lips. Miley’s a girl in a similar position, who also appreciates the finer things in life. They’d rock it out to this in a mother/daughter kind of way. (Well, if the mother was advising the daughter to marry for money, that is.)

‘Crazy For You’

One of Madonna’s most beautiful ballads, this is universally accepted as one of her best vocals, even by those who can’t stand her – in a Wrecking Ball kind of way. This collaboration would be the perfect combination of nostalgic Madge and Miley’s country tones. But let’s face it, it’s likely they’d spoil it with some stunt where one of them gets carted off in a straitjacket at the end.

‘Hanky Panky’

Miley twerked on Robin Thicke, but Madonna wouldn’t do any old bum shake against any old singer – circa 1990 she was pushing up on the Godfather of Hollywood man-slags, Warren Beatty, as she played the moll to his Dick Tracy – both on and off screen. With a song about a frisky woman begging to be spanked by a man, this would be like the Celebrity Deathmatch of duets.

‘Human Nature’

1994’s Human Nature was Madonna’s middle finger to those who hated on her Sex period – a reaction that post-twerk Miley will likely have to imitate soon. So, wrapped up in black PVC with cornrows, these two could sulk through lines like “Oops, I didn’t know we couldn’t talk about sex!” with tongues firmly in cheeks, and we would love it: absolutely no regrets.

‘Like A Prayer’

Possibly Madonna’s ultimate banger, with an unrivalled mix of religion and sex, a performance of this 1989 classic will never fall flat – even if Madge loses grip on her zimmer frame belting it out on her 2038 World Tour. Miley would be there to wail the gospel ad libs at the end, while Madonna got reacquainted with her black Jesus. Heavenly.
