WATCH: Aussie busker sings to drown out anti-gay preacher

By Josh Haggis

A video of an Australian busker singing to drown out the voice of an anti-gay preacher has gone viral.

Musician Axel Winter was performing on the streets of Sydney during the city’s world famous Mardi Grad celebrations last weekend, which included performances from Nick Jonas and Dannii Minogue, when he spotted a religious preacher clinging on to a bible and shouting anti-gay verses at pedestrians.

Winter and his friends moved their band toward the preacher and performed a rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – with the lyrics altered to include gay men – to drown out the man’s hate speech.

In a post on Facebook, Winter thanked the crowd who watched his band’s performance for “taking a stand” for equality.
