UKIP evicted from London offices after HIV activists dump horse manure outside
By Will Stroude
UKIP has been evicted from from its Croydon office after HIV activists dumped horse manure outside the premises on World AIDS Days earlier this month (December 1).
ACT UP London staged the protest outside the party’s Croydon North and Lambeth office in reaction to “bulls**t” statements by UKIP on HIV. Party leader Nigel Farage caused controversy in October when he responded to a question about who should be allowed into the UK by saying: “People who do not have HIV, to be frank. That’s not a good start.”
The disruption caused by the protest was “the last straw” for the landlord, reports to Inside Croydon, and in an email to perty members, the local UKIP chairman, Winston McKenzie, revealed that all future meetings at the office had been cancelled “with immediate effect”.
“I have recently been informed by our Deputy Chairman, Barry Slayford, that after careful consideration and advice from the Police, who he informs me have been very specific, Barry Slayford is no longer willing to allow his premises to be used to accommodate UKIP Branch meetings…”
“Any Meetings that were scheduled for December are now cancelled with immediate effect…The matter has been referred to the R.O., Paul Oakley. On Monday morning I will notify the Party Chairman accordingly.” – UKIP local chairman Winston McKenzie
ACT UP activist Fernando Mariano said of the news: “UKIP’s office eviction just reinforces our original message: ‘what goes around comes around’. If you marginalise and exclude people from support, it will come back at you. ACT UP will continue to expose UKIP for the bigots they are make them create a plan to be supportive of all HIV+ people. Our message is very clear: We won’t stand-aside while UKIP oppress the most vulnerable, we will fight back.”
