Two transgender women refused entry at Hong Kong International Airport
A rights group have urged Chinese authorities to treat transgender people with more respect following reports of two transgender women who were refused entry to the city at Hong Kong International Airport.
According to the South China Morning Post the women were visiting Hong Kong from Bangkok for sightseeing and shopping. They were told to sign two documents to confirm that they had completed their gender transition and that they would voluntarily go back to Thailand immediately.
They refused to the sign the documents but returned to Thailand later that night.
Lawyer Jonathon Man-Ho-Ching is representing one of the women and revealed that he couldn’t the role out the possibility of “prejudice and discrimination”. He also stated that the women were asked if they were “cut already”.
The two men have previously travelled to Spain, Taiwan, South Korea and Spain.
A spokesperson for the Immigration Department said the women were “suspicious” and they failed to “satisfy that they were genuine travellers.”
