Tunisian government forcing men suspected of being gay to undergo anal examinations

Men who are suspected of being gay are being forced to undergo anal examinations in Tunisia.
Currently in Tunisia, under Article 230 of the penal code, homosexual conduct is punishable with up to three years in prison and according to Human Rights Watch (HRW) authorities are now using private information on suspect’s phones to extract confessions.
Police forces in the north African country are forcing suspects to undergo anal examinations.
Amna Guellali, Tunisia director at HRW, said: “The Tunisian authorities have no business meddling in people’s private sexual practices, brutalising and humiliating them under the guise of enforcing discriminatory laws.”
Now the HRW are urging the Tunisian parliament to abolish Article 230 and to also enact a law to protect people’s privacy.
