A transgender woman has been found murdered on a street in Texas just weeks after she was filmed being assaulted.
Back in April, Muhlaysia Booker was brutally attacked by a mob of men who were filmed repeatedly kicking and punching her in the street and 29 year old Edward Thomas was charged with aggravated assault.
On Saturday (May 18), Dallas police were called about a shooting and later found Booker ‘lying facedown in the street’ and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thomas was released from custody and police said they were unaware of his current whereabouts, however, they have said there is no evidence linking him to the murder.
Assistant Chief of Police, Avery Moore, told the Dallas Morning News they did not have enough information to claim Booker’s murder was motivated by “hate” or “retaliation”.
“We recognize that hate crimes, if you will, are a serious topic,” he said.
“We at the Dallas Police Department take them serious.”
