The Sun has been slammed after mocking a transgender couple’s wedding day on its front page.

The British tabloid, which last year outed an NHS nurse as a former gay porn star for absolutely no reason, sparked fury on Tuesday (March 27) after running a story about the wedding of filmmaker Jake Graf and the UK’s highest-ranking trangender military officer, Captain Hannah Winterbourne, under the headline “Tran and wife”.

Graf, 40, wed Winterbourne, 31, wed in a “Disney-themed” wedding at Chelsea’s Town Hall in London on Friday (March 23), but the transgender couple found their happy day the subject of ridicule after The Sun ran pictures from their wedding day alongside the spiteful headline and pictures of the pair before their transitions.

A subheading read: “Jake who used to be a woman weds Hannah who was a man.”

The story has been condemend as “hateful” and “bigoted” on social media, while the couple have taken aim at the paper’s editor’s over their handling of the story.

Graf expressed his disappointed with the publication on Twitter, saying an otherwise positive article had been “sentionalised” with a “misleading headline”.

He wrote: “Following such a lovely positive article… it’s a real shame that it’s been cheapened by such a sensationalised and misleading headline.

“[Hannah] was never a man, as I was never a woman.”

Meanwhile, Winterbourne tweeted: “A shame that our beautiful day and a positive article… has been marred by fairly offensive headlines.

“I have always been a woman and Jake has always been a man,” she added.

Graf and Winterbourne, who have been dubbed a media “power couple” began dating in 2015 after The Sun published a front page story on Hannah decision to transition while serving in the British Armed Forces.

The pair got engaged in New York last year, and will set up home together in married quarters near Captain Winterbourne’s Army barracks.
