By Ross Semple
Tesco stores across London will fly the rainbow flag in partnership with Attitude magazine this weekend to fundraise for the Diversity Role Models charity.
On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd July, select central London Tesco stores will proudly display rainbow bunting, posters and even change the chevrons on store signs to the Pride colours.
Covent Garden Metro and Regent Street Metro will welcome The London Gay Men’s Chorus to perform, and a Smirnoff pop-up bar will serve rainbow inspired cocktails and mocktails featuring their limited- edition “Love Wins” vodka bottles available exclusively in Tesco stores.
Customers will be invited to show their support by taking part in charity raffles, sample Pride-themed cupcakes and in thirteen select stores, purchase exclusive Pride t-shirts with proceeds going towards the Diversity Role Models charity.
Regent Street Metro will also host a week long range of activities in support of the charity which includes a ‘Ride for Pride’ bicycle-powered smoothie maker and Gaydio Radio will perform a DJ set in store.
John Dickinson, Diversity and Inclusion Manger, said: “This year we asked our LGBT+ colleague network which charity they would like us to support for Pride. Over 500 colleagues voted and we’re delighted that Diversity Role Models came out as the winner. Diversity Role Models is making a real difference to the lives of LGBT+ Young People across the UK.”
Out at Tesco is the largest LGBT network in Europe with over 1,500 members from within the business. It aims to attract, support and develop the LGBT community within the work place, so that colleagues feel confident to be themselves at work.
A 40ft Tesco delivery truck decked out with a Pride- o- Meter, dance floor and coloured smoke cannons will take part in the parade on Saturday 8 July, with Tesco colleagues handing out branded sweets, water bottles, bubbles and Pride flags.
